First time engine rebuild

I want to rebuild the 327 in my 67. I've never done a complete rebuild before. I know my way around an engine some but just have never been completely through one. Is there a book or DVD that anyone recommends to help out for a first timer? I know friends that can help out that know what to do if I get stuck, but I really want to do this myself. Any advice?

Re: First time engine rebuild

Most any Haynes manual at the local parts store has a good chapter on Engine Rebuild.
Pick one for any vehicle you have, there won't be one for first gen's, and read.
It will tell you what to expect, what tools you would need, and things to look and check.

Any questions you have, don't be afraid to ask. Plenty good help here.

Re: First time engine rebuild

I think the part that intimidates me the most is all the parts specifications. Engine guys start throwing numbers around and I get lost. The actual tearing down and rebuilding doesn't have me too worried, it's the not knowing what size this part or what size that part I need.

Re: First time engine rebuild

I'm wanting to rebuild my 327 in my '67 RS as well and I think the way to go
Is as the other guy suggests , buy a good book ,ask plenty of advice and if you get stuck ask someone here because i do nothing but spend all my spare time on this site and someone here will have the answer. We are much alike
In that I also know my way around an engine but some of the specs can get
A little confusing. I plan to post picks and update as I go along. (and obviously
ask plenty of questions !)
Good luck.
Cheers.

Re: First time engine rebuild

i would find a real good machine shop--let them have the block to bore and crank -rods---they can size the rods and turn the crank- and the heads probably gonna need guides and seats--from there its a easy rebuild and if you run into a question the machine can point the right way--make sure you mark the number on rods and mains
