Intake Manifold - how does this deck surface look to you?
Hi Guys - Swapping back to my original Q-JET carb after having Eric from Vintage Muscle Car Parts perform a rebuild on it. Pulling my current carb off I see what I remember before but never did anything about...pitting near the primary bores on the intake manifold. I have 2 pics one with flash one without....what do you guys think? I don't see much pitting near the actual edge of the bores themselves....but certainly some on the deck surface. What are the opinions on the gasket sealing this OK? Current carb is a Holley 4165 Qjet replacement. It seemed to run OK before some very recent float problems, although it did run a bit rich.

A little red RTV carefully applied with the tip of your finger before you lay the gasket on should take care of that. Moisture from the exhaust crossover causes the pitting. You could have it resurfaced and run a thicker gasket also.
