327 Exhuast - 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 ?

Here is my setup:

69 Camaro
TH350 Trans
327 (bored 30 over-331ci)
9.7:1 compression
Forged bottom end (except pistons-KB)
Lunati 262 Voodoo cam (60102)
Vortec heads (iron)
Air-Gap RPM vortec intake
650 Edelbrock Thunder Carb
3.08 rear with 3.36 rear posi end in a box waiting to be installed.
P/S non-AC (taken out)
Long 1 5/8 Summit headers

What size exhaust will work best with the above combo? I want it to be snappy, with a good power range.

Thanks,

Nick

69 Camaro, 327, Auto, Console, Deluxe Interior, AC, Med Green, Exterior Style Trim, 3.08 rear end. Owned since 1983-1st car.

Nick, either one. You will probably not notice a difference, even on a dyno.
How about some pictures?

Re: 327 Exhuast - 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 ?

The engine looks good. It is on a stand right now. The rest of the car is not so good, but I will take a few photos and post them anyway. This work in progress has been going on since 1983. It is/has been the lowest priority in my family, even the dog has a higher priority.

Any way, this will not be a high reving car - even with 3.36 gears. I am a little worried I am too big on top (RPM intake & 650 carb). I wonder if bigger exhaust will help even out that, or cause more harm (ie, need smaller exhaust).

Thanks,

Nick

Re: 327 Exhuast - 2 1/4 or 2 1/2 ?

I'd probably go ahead and get a 2.5" mandrel-bent kit and grow into it as you surely will. I agree, 2.25" is enough now, but later...?

I hate Flowmaster mufflers but they make a very nice mandrel dual muffler 2.5" kit (stainless) with beautiful polished tips that exit out the back of the car as a 69 should. Fit is superb. I'll see if I can get you a part number for the kit.

Yeah definately go with the 2.5 exhaust, they won't hurt you.As for the top I think you combo is fine and will have great street manners. And don't think that you are not gonna spin that 327

OK. I am going with 2.5. That was an easy decision!

OK. Here is an old picture I had on the computer. It was when I was in college.
