510 not getting oil pressure

Hello,
I have newly rebuilt 454 bored out to a 510. Im running MSD pro billet distributor. I filled the oil and primed the oil pump. Here is the problem.....
I am not getting any oil pressure with the distributor installed. I took the valve covers off and no oil is being pushed up the rods. With the motor running.... I put the oil pump priming tool back in and get oil right away.... ANY IDEAS?????

Re: 510 not getting oil pressure

almost sounds like the distributor is not seating properly into the oil pump shaft. Compare the length of your priming tool to the dizzy when fully seated. Is it the slip collar MSD?

Re: 510 not getting oil pressure

tom is on the right track but something seems mix matched--i am assuming its a standard block and bored and stroked to get 510- would bet on wrong oil pump shaft

Re: 510 not getting oil pressure

My guess is the oil band on the dist. is not lined up with the lifter passage .

Re: 510 not getting oil pressure

I suggest checking the diameter of the housing at the oil band between the two items.
I believe MSD uses O-rings for sealing the oil band, could be another brand, I'm thinking.

Re: 510 not getting oil pressure

YEP, that was it the dizzy was set too short. I adjusted the upper ring and it fell right in.
