Are all bbc exhaust manifolds the same? I am looking to swap my headers back over to manifolds ( I know, I know, blasphemy). Will 454 exhaust manifolds fit my 68 with a 396? Also I don't quite get the whole smog hole deal? Is that just a plug for an O2 sensor or what?

No, they are not all the same...I purchased the repop exhaust mainifolds (correct application) for my 396...Now, the 396 manifolds will bolt up on the 454...I did the same thing, swapped out the headers for the manifolds...Ground Up part# AXD-396, without smog/A.I.R...

fyi, I did the same thing, the motor has to partially lifted up in order to get the driver side manifold bolted on...

The exhaust manifolds for any BBC will bolt onto any of the other BBCs. There are differences after that, though. Mostly in the form of where the exhausts dumps out of them and any chassis clearance provisions. If you've got a usable set lying around, you might test fit them to see if they will work. If you don't have easy access to used ones, I've heard no complaints about the repop ones.

The drivers side exhaust is tight, just went through it changing the motor mount, always put the manifold in before the motor. It will come out of the top if you jack up the motor.

The passenger side is wide open, but uses a terrible log manifold, I have seen a Camaro with a corvette manifold on it, no heat riser installed, as it was tight to the idler arm but fit

These Corvette manifolds look like they will fit but couldn't find anyone to verify it.

There's nothing wrong with using exhausts manifolds. I prefer them to headers because they always fit and rarely leak. Unless Colorado law requires it, dont use the manifolds made for A.I.R. You can read about it here: http://www.camaros.org/emissions.shtml

Thanks for the help guys. I am going to check out the manifolds this weekend. For you guys that have switched from headers back to manifolds, were you happy with the switch? Was the sound less pingy?
