Need HELP!!!!

68 Camaro with a GM ZZ383, 425 h.p. installed last year and ran great. I was replacing my oil pressure sender and removed the plug wires from distributor on left side. I fired the engine back up for about 30 seconds and realized that I forgot to put the wires back onto the cap. I shut it down and hooked them back up and fired it back up and BOOOOOMM...The loudest backfire that I ever heard!!! made my ears ring for half hour...So I screwed up...Anyway, it now runs like crap missing and backfires through exhaust on left side. I went through everything that I can think of: Replaced the power valve on Demon 750, Checked compression, I thought maybe a stuck or burnt valve, no. it is 145-150 PSi across all 8 cylinders, I replaced all of the plugs, checked for spark at all 8 plugs, all good. Triple checked wires and firing order. I has an ACCELL correct a cap so that all of my wires are on the same side. Checked my MSD6 box. good spark. It also backfires through the carb sometimes. But it generally runs real rough and backfires through the left side exhaust. I need help, I am at my wits end with it.....Thanks for the help guys much appreciated.

Re: Need HELP!!!!

I forgot, I also replaced the intake manifold gasket, I thought maybe I blew that out.

Re: Need HELP!!!!

I'll bet it wasn't as loud as when our sailboat was hit by lightening.
Sorry, that was silly. Try a different carb.

Re: Need HELP!!!!

I'm going to guess that it bent a pushrod but surely you would've noticed when you had the intake off. Could've missed it though I reckon. It wouldn't show up on a compression test.
