Re: 427 Big Block is going on the Dyno

Hi Andrew and Kevin
Will have Video and Pictures.
I'm looking at 6,000 rpm and 450+ HP and Torque.

Built as a reliable Street engine, that is what I talked to my Engine Builder about what I wanted.
I'll be lucky if it see's a Drag Strip once in 3 years.

I bought the Engine like 12 years ago from a Racer thinking I would have this Monster of an engine.
It wound up needing like everything.
Carb, Intake, Pushrods, Cam, Valve Springs, Roller Rockers, Pistons, Water Pump, Fuel Pump, Bearings, Distributor. - I have over $5,500 into this Engine. A "crate Motor" might have been cheaper !

I will say it has been fun Building it, my Neighbor owns the Engine Shop, I have been "Bartering" my services in exchange for his work I could not do.

I'm building this Engine for my Son to enjoy for the next 45 Years.

OK
On and Running.
Having trouble uploading the Video File.
Used my Wifes Tablet, download listed as an MOV type of thing and the TeamCamaro does not like that.
Still looking to convert over to a different format.
Sounds Great !

Re: 427 Big Block is going on the Dyno

I Try and "upload" the Video I took with my Wifes Tablet thing and get this message -

427 Dyno run 5 June 7 2014.MOV:
Invalid File

The Engine came in at
434 HP
483 TQ and peaked at @ 5700 rpm
Still very happy.

The 500HP thing is more for bragging rights for me J

I asked Jimmy, the Engine builder to give me something “Reliable, nice TQ and run on Pump Gas and like the most important thing was that “Lumpy/ Lopey Sound at Idle”.
I got that, like a Perfect L-72 Corvette Engine for my Camaro.
Could put Yenko Stickers on it and call it a “tribute” car and sell it for $70,000

Got the Doug’s Headers back from Jet Hot – Wow, do they look great !
Will post some pic’s of them too.

Iskenderian P/N 396281
280-MEGA Valve Lift .565"
280 Duration, 108 Lobe Center
Hyd Flat Tappet Lifters
Triple Valve Springs
All Isky

I wanted the "Thumper" Cam, my Engine builder said I'll get you that sound you want, nice power, Vacuum on pump gas.
He said he would order an Isky Cam, I was a little leery, very Happy with the Power and Sound.

Re: 427 Big Block is going on the Dyno

OEM headed BBC need duration split. Your choice on cams would have been in the right direction, but all that matters is if the customer is happy and that is achieved.

Re: 427 Big Block is going on the Dyno

Hi Chris
Yes, Heads were probably more than I need for the Street.
Came with the Engine when I bought it and my Engine builder told me I would be better off with a nice set of Oval ports.
I told him I’m in the “run what you brung” kind of rebuild.

I wanted that Lopey Idle, nice power on Pump gas and do not want to have to put a Vacuum pump on it to get it to Stop J Kind of recreating the L-72 engine.

He gave me what I wanted.

Pic is of the 396 Bare Block/ Heads I borrowed to "proof fit" my Doug's D-320 Headers with the "90" IROC P/S Box.

Will need some Exhaust System suggestions.
Right now, I’m leaning towards the Pypes SS 2 ½” or 3” with Race Pro Mufflers, Quarter Panel Exit.

Thanks
Timmy
