Engine hoist question

I have an engine hoist I got from my brother, but it has no chain and hook. I need to pull my 396BB, what chains and hooks should I buy. I will be putting the engine on an engine stand for paint.
Thanks

Re: Engine hoist question

1/4" chain link will be enough, or you can buy a lifting plate that bolts on the intake to pull the engine

Re: Engine hoist question

How much length should I get of the 1/4" chain? If I don't get the plate, what would I need?
Thanks

Re: Engine hoist question

Here is an engine plate used to pull engines with a cherry picker. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/aaf-all10123. Here is what I call an engine hoist or cherry picker. http://www.ebay.com/itm/like/191209311343?lpid=82 Look at the chain and hook to get an idea of the size. It sure makes it easy to have this equipment to pull an engine.

Re: Engine hoist question

Those new hoists fold up really nice for storage, mine is not so good.
It looks like about 6 links and a hook, I definitely will get the plate too since it's very inexpensive. Thanks guys for the help.
