Holley Accelerator Pump Binding

The level going to the my accelerator diaphragm keeps binding. When I loosen the bowl I can get the arm to act properly. But when I tighten the bowl and hit the throttle, the level binds up again. Before I drop any more f-bombs, does anyone have any tips?

Thanks, Nick

Hi Nick, assuming you're referring to your lever, not 'level'. I shot my last spell checker for doing that.
Anyway, the lever can be bent without too much risk of malfunction. Try to bend it so as it ends up centered under the spring loaded activator.

Re: Holley Accelerator Pump Binding

Can you provide a photo? I know what binding is and have examples of accelerator pumps to look at but can't picture an accelerator pump arm binding on anything. Which piece is binding? The arm that operates the diaphragm? The arm that is moved by the cam on the throttle shaft or the adjuster section?

Re: Holley Accelerator Pump Binding

Thanks for the replies.

I think I figured it out. Appears there's only one way the bowl to metering block gasket can go. The hole from the diaphragm to the squirter was getting blocked, which in a sense caused the lever to 'bind'.

I switched the gasket around and she's as good a new. Some days are better than others...

I'm so jealous. My screw ups are never that easy to fix.

Well, that's what I thought it was. When the bowl is empty, the diaphragm is working fine. Once it fills, the diaphragm gets full and hard. Nothing is coming out of the squirter. Could something be clogged there?

If it's hard then it's been dry for too long and is junk. Replace it and it should be fine.

Re: Holley Accelerator Pump Binding

Replaced the diaphragm and blew out the line to the squirter. Car is alive again! Not a bad way to spend fathers day

Thanks Guys
