Suggestions for a new dizzy

Guess I am giving up on my old dizzy. Going the new route to get better perf. and a few extra revs. Thinking I need something that will do 6K rpm's or better. heard the old HEI is only good for 4,000

What should I be looking for??Vacuum advance? mechanical advance?

what's your engine combo? vacuum advance will give you better mileage on the street. think most will agree MSD is the brand of choice. I have a msd billet unit. like the fact it is smaller than stock so lots of room against the firewall.

Re: Suggestions for a new dizzy

I have a 350 -four speed. Dont know the exact cam from Summit, guy exchanged the one I had . Had a 6A MSD box and dist. on it. Dont particularly like MSD. They have a terrible web site and zero tech support. They act too big for there britches. Any other factos I missed here,,,ask away???? Whats the difference between a 5A box and a 6AL box most are running in MSD? Lots of unhappy customers over on their site also.

Don, look and review the new Pertronix Ignitor III, if your not running a box you just need this (has the rev limiter built right in) ... not sure if you need a vacuum advance as I`m running a BBC

Re: Suggestions for a new dizzy

I replaced my MSD Billet distributor that had no vacuum advance and the associated 6AL box with a stock GM points style distributor but I refit it with a Pertronix Ignitor III ignition module and coil. I've been completely satisfied as I now have vacuum advance and it looks like a stock ignition system but I get multi-spark ignition all the way up to 10,000 rpm and the adjustable built in rev limiter. And for what it's worth, the engine runs much better with this setup than it ever did with the MSD setup.

Re: Suggestions for a new dizzy

MSD is easier setting your timing curve. They supply the springs and the advance stop bushings. You be glad you Also comes with good instructions and charts for picking an advance curve.
