Roller cam,,,new Accel dist gear,,,compatible???

Read someplace you MAY have to have a special dist. drive gear to match up with the roller cam in your engine. True or false????

I did for my Luntati roller cam. Some cam manf you don't. You'll need to ask them.

Yeah, it depends on what material the cam is ground on, more specifically what material the drive gear on the came is made from. (popular option is to have a standard iron gear pressed onto a steel cam core) Best to call the cam manuf if you have the cam card.

If it's a GM steel roller cam you can likely use the GM Melonized gear w/o worry.

If you don't know what the material is, you can pull the cam and look at the numbers (big job)

You could use a bronze gear (ugh).

If you have a stock oil pump you could use a Comp Polymer gear (what I use) High volume pumps tend to chew them up.

If it is a cast hyd roller you can run any gear on it.

If it is a billet camshaft you have to run a bronze gear.

If it is a billet with a press on gear ( 2pc camshaft) you can run any gear.

Note a Bronze gear is safe on any cam core.

Melonized can run on anything except a billet.
