Re: help in ls and 6-speed trans plant

#1 You need to mod the harness to get rid of connections you don't want.

#2 you will have to have the VATS removed from the ECM

#3 On the T56s I have installed in 1st Gens it has required tunnel mods.

#4 the GTO T56 has the shifter further back which will be an issue if you have a console and may be too far back even if you do not have a console.

Re: help in ls and 6-speed trans plant

Have to reprogram the ECM. The harness is up to you. You can figure it out and do it yourself or send it out.

It's 3 1/2" further back then the Camaro Tranny but the Camaro Tanny is not right for the stock consoile either and it also depends on where you mount the engine Stock Location, Moved Forward or Back?

Re: help in ls and 6-speed trans plant

I have not had any T56 in front of me yet but can you swap the shifter on the GTO trans with a camaro trans to move it forward? Trans housing look like they are the same length but different shifter on the picture you posted.

I know you will know better then anyone here with all the swaps you have done.

Re: help in ls and 6-speed trans plant

I thought that Hurst and other company made shifters that allow for the mount of a T56 in the stock location. Is this just on their T56 setups or would it work on any one?

Re: help in ls and 6-speed trans plant

McLeod makes a good offset shifter.

What I'm saying is at this point there are too many variables to say what is needed.

Personally I would move engine forward 1-2" but then depending on steering box header clearances you may have issues.

Re: help in ls and 6-speed trans plant

A couple of issues are converting the electric speedometer to a mechanical output and also installing an electric solenoid lockout for reverse gear.

Cost is around $400-$500 for these two mods.

You can pull reverse lock out off the VSS via the ECM and run 12v to it. the other wire goes to the ecm and grounds when under a certain speed like 2 mph

Electric speedo to mechanical is via the VSS to a box that has a motor that drives the speedo cable to you OEM speedo

Have you seen any of these dragon units ? I know the cable X has been around for years.

What do you think of the tailshaft conversion being done by a guy in the NW ? It was about $375, but it looked better than any other way of doing it to me.

Can't seem to find a low-cost way of using the OEM speedometer. I really don't want to use an aftermarket speedo.

Re: help in ls and 6-speed trans plant

i well have to think about moving the motor and trans forward, i was going to use the stock manifolds and pipes with the o2 sensors and cad conveters in them that are on the motor

Looking at the pic that John (vegas69) posted, it looks like the GTO shifter could be removed and the Camaro shifter installed in it's place, moving the shifter forward 3-1/2".

One of the companies selling T56 kits should know. I see Erik and Rich said the same thing basically.

Yes I believe you can change to the Camaro shifter cup

From what I've read the dragon looks good. Tail shaft idk. A lot of work in my mind and if you ship it to have it done it will run up the cost n
