white-Blue Smoke??

I have 200 miles on the 69 468 BB, started today with a different carb, 850 holley dp and after a few minutes it was blowing white-blue smoke out the pipes and was getting worse. What could that be. . .I think that is oil and not gas and not a good sign. . . what are your opinions?

Blue smoke is oil, white smoke is water/coolant... Check your dipstick and your radiator...

Its blue, just don't know what happened and where to look first for the cause and then the solution. . . any suggestions would be appreciated

A 750 is plenty for the street unless this is a car that's dedicated to the race track. Way too fat for the street. If you smell fuel then lean it down with jets and the idle mixture screws.

Can you describe when it's smoking, all the time?, on hard acceleration? on deceleration? at idle? all point to different issues. Is the smoke just on one side or even out both tail pipes? It could be something as simple as too much oil being sucked into the base of the carb by through the PCV valve...

After I switched from a sick 750 VA to a 850 DP, when warming up it started to smoke first out of the right then the left and got worse the warmer it got until it was filling up the driveway. The engine sounded fine. I changed the break in oil and the wet carboned up spark plugs with stock 1976 454 AC plugs. Started the car and it did the same thing, not so bad. I do not have a pvc valve, just a plug in breather. I have not taken the car out of the shop since this all happened.

Could be as simple as rings not seated yet, I've seen rings take 500-1000 miles to seat on a fresh rebuild.

Did it smoke at all with the first carb?

Have you tried swithing back to first carb to see if that makes a differance? If it does and the smoke goes away, then ya over carbed it. If the smoke is still there, give a lil more time for the rings to seat, but keep a close eye on the oil level.

The way I read it the car did not smoke girl the first 200 miles with the old carb.

Changed the carb and it started smoking and smoked more as the car warmed up.

I would put the old carb back on and if the smoke stops then you know the carb is the problem.

If still smoking pull the valve covers and look for obvious problems and the valve stem seals. I've seen them ride up on the valve stems on new builds. Next in order would be compression test and looking at the oil for any signs of coolant.

We found the "old" carb, 750 VA, had some trash in it and we are going to go through it again. The bottom end did not need to be rebuilt as it had a few thousand miles on it. We replaced the cam, oil pump, timing chain and and freshened up the heads. Will see what happens with the re rebuild 750. I appreciate your input, guys.

As above blue is oil, white coolant = blown head gasket if your lucky
