factory big block solid lifter intake

i want to know what is the manifold hieght on the factory solid lifter dual plane intake. i am building an oval port big block and would like to get an intake that looks a close as possible to an original. i would like to use the 396 style air cleaner for the cowl hood. i have a mill so i can make some adjustments in hieght if need be.

If you run a stock style dual plane intake , you should be fine, but its the low profile bottom air cleaner base that plays a big part in this set up.
I am not up to stock bbc intakes but I think they are all the same as long as they are dual plane. http://www.jegs.com/webapp/wcs/store...1&YEAR=1541407

Some of the BBC experts will pop in on this, maybe Fred is out there somewhere.

Re: factory big block solid lifter intake

The only GM oval port aluminum intake for a BBC was used on late 60's Vettes (390 HP 427's) and it's a pancake; not much for performance.

Higher performance (solid lifter) intakes for BBC's were all rectangle ports.

Unless you just have to have GM, the Edelbrock RPM O-port dual plane is a great piece:

...or better yet, this one which is CNC'd from GM Performance:

Either the above will fit under a cowl hood and the stock-type cowl hood air cleaner.

Good luck,
Wes

Re: factory big block solid lifter intake

yeah im going use the oval port heads thats why i asked about the hieght... i think the edebrock rpm looks fairly close to the rect port intake as long as it isnt too high for the cowl air cleaner i want to get.

Plenty of guys running the 163 rectangle port manifold with their oval port heads over on Team Chevelle. Concesus is it works fine. http://www.chevelles.com/forums/show...old+oval+heads

Experience...... It's what you get when you didn't get what you wanted.
