Will qjet work on Performer EPS?

After days of chewing on rebuilt qjet or buying new I decided to ship my qjet off to Lars (as recommended). This allows me to keep my original air cleaner, etc.

I'm considering replacing stock intake with a spread bore aluminum unit for a bit better performance. Which intake would work well with qjet and stock motor with headers...Performer, EPS or Weiand? I figure my engine compartment will still look mostly original with this minor upgrade.

Straight performer - yes
performer eps - no
performer RPM - no
performer RPM Q-Jet - Yes

The only Weiand I could find for a q-jet was the Weiand Street Warrior intake manifold.

I would go with the Edelbrock Performer. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/edl-2101/overview/

Paint it the color of the block, which should be orange, and no one will know.

Great idea! Does the orange paint hold up on aluminum?

I personally have not done it, but I know that there is a can of etching primer type stuff for aluminum.

I painted my Edelbrock heads Chevy orange. They came out great.

Weiand action plus is an excellent intake with a Q-jet design. Unfortunately, they are no longer being produced new, but plenty of them are on ebay used. Part #8004

Here's a nice one I recently sold on ebay for $80.

That's what I ended up doing , and it has worked fine for the past few years.

Re: Will qjet work on Performer EPS?

Another thing to complicate matters is making sure to get an intake that Will work with your choke setup. If youve got the coil on the intake with the rod then you have to make sure the intake has a provision for such a setup. Sometimes the pad is there but the hole needs to be drilled and tapped for a screw. Being a 69 I guess you dont need to worry about an oil filler tube or accessory bolt hole as your alternator is on the other side.

Re: Will qjet work on Performer EPS?

I would check out Ebay for the Street Warrior 8004. They have plenty of them to choose from. If not interested in the Street Warrior check out the Performer RPM it has the dual pattern for the Q-jet and the Holley. The Performer intake manifold is just like a stock manifold but made from Aluminum. http://www.summitracing.com/parts/ed...make/chevrolet

If you do not block off the exhaust passages that heats the choke thermostat coil, the paint will burn off. But doing so will not allow the choke to open fully. The heat riser in the stock exhaust manifolds needs to be wired open with this configuration. If originality is not a concern, it's easier to convert to electric choke or just let the car warm up for a couple minutes. A local man here has a great rep for carb rebuilds.

I used a EPS intake for the factory look. I also ground off the letters and put back the same texture

Looks nice!

I'm in the market for a new intake for my 327. Just curious, did you give any thought to the Performer Air Gap?

I am asking for opinions on another thread. I can't decide which way to go.
