Quick question. In the past, I have had sealing problems on a 350 cu in engine where oil came up thru the intake manifold bolt threads. Will a 396 with cast iron manifold be similar where the bolt threads will have to be sealed with a thread sealer?

You should always use a thread sealer on most of the bolts in your engine, it is just good cheap isurance to keep down the leaks.

On a BBC not all of the intake bolts go all the way through into the valley like on a SBC. They are also angled differently -- I have not seen intake bolts leak on a BBC personally (that doesn't mean it can't happen though.)

I'd put sealant on the ones that go all the way through to be safe and leave it off the ones that are blind tapped.
