Ok, to re-open an old rumor....

I spent the weekend with the 4 guys from TTC (manufacturer), and they confirmed that they have plans to offer a 2.92 1st gear in their 5speed transmission. Should be available Jan/Feb of '03.

I know there's a lot of interest in this, so your wishes are coming true!

Quite likely the 2.92 will require the 0.83 5th rather than the 0.68. Not sure on this yet.

Please feel free to let me know of any questions you may have. And watch my website for updates.

That's great!! I left you a reply on the other tremec topic regarding the new shifter that Forte's was coming out with this summer... any word on that?

He has the first prototype back from the machine shop, and he sent it back for revisions. Naturally, going slower than he'd hoped for. Probably another month or 2.

I'm going to try to machine a block of aluminum, such that it has 45 degree cuts, bolts to the shifter stub, and the shifter bar bolts to the other end. This would move the shifter bar over 2", and forward 2".

Do you think that would work?

I don't own one yet, so I can't say if that would work or not. I do want one of these tranny's and I am VERY interested in that higher 1st gear you mentioned. I have a 3:42 rear gear and that ratio would be perfect. Do you think that release date is realistic? Ideally I'd like to purchase and install before next season (April).
So what exactly is your relationship with Fortes or Tremec? If I buy one, is it you that is offering the Team Camaro discount?
Is a group purchase an option (how many would it take)?

The Jan/Feb 03 date was given to me by the guys at TTC. They seemed pretty confident it would happen then.

Forte is also designing a new shifter to move it forward to the same location as the Muncie shifter. He has the first prototype in hand, and it'll probably be another month or 2 before its ready.

I am a distributor for Forte's Parts Connection. Over the weekend I helped out the TTC guys at the TREMEC tent at the Norwalk Super Chevy. That was pretty cool! I got to learn a lot, have fun, and make some good contacts with the manufacturer, and a few goodies (such as the stainless steel shifter ball, banners, decals, tshirts, etc).

Yes, I'm offering TC members a discount. As for a group purchase, I'm sure 5-10 transmissions could get us a price break. I've never asked, but I'm sure something can be worked out.

Thanks for asking!

Optional first gear ratios would be nice. Is this possible? I have 4.10's, would like overdrive but do not want to do another rear gear swap to accomodate a tranny change.

Well MJ (what's your name, by the way?) You can put me down for one. But I want the no-hassle new shifter and I definitely want that 2.92 first gear. I guess that means I have to wait a few more months. I could do a post to drum up interest in a group purchase. Do you think I should wait a while to do a post ? How would you like to see this handled?

Only slightly stronger. Not enough change to warrant the $300 upgrade cost.

I'm Mike Pell, from Indianapolis.

The 2.92 is 'scheduled' to be ready in Jan/Feb of '03. Might as well wait til then to place an order. You know how these things go....

As for a group order, I'm pretty flexible on how we handle it. Feel free to round up some takers, and give me an idea of how many are serious, and I'll work on some pricing. I can still ship each individual transmission to each person, no problem. And we'll work out some details on how to get it accomplished.

You might also want to work with the Team Chevelle guys...

Mike, count me in with John Doyle. I will be getting a Tremec before next spring.

No plans for Bowling Green for me, but I'll try to keep you in mind.

Regarding the Hurst, I'm sure it's a fine shifter, although I don't know much about it. I have the Pro5.0 on my trans, and am quite pleased. TTC had the Hurst shifter on their display model this weekend.

One thing TTC is planning is to evaluate some shifters and recommend them for use on their transmissions. And they will honor their 6 month warranty with these recommended shifters.
