Wasn't quite sure where to put this post.

I recently started driving my 68 after a lot of years off the road. I have a standard, painted, replacement fuel cap that I got from Rick's. Even though this car has most of the RS do-dads, I took off all the emblems and badges, and like the look of the plain jane cap better.

Basically, the cap fits really poorly, and is much more cheaply made than the originals that I remember. It leaks like a sieve under hard acceleration, and when the tank is topped off.

I've owned two other 68's and never had this problem, but they were sporting the heavier SS or RS cap.

Does anyone sell a better standard, paint to match cap for the '68, or do I have to go with one of the heavier, plated RS caps??

1st are you sure its the cap? My 68 leaked and I found that the tabs on the filler neck were bent in which kept the cap from pulling in tight on the gasket to seal.

I just use a paint to match one from National Parts Depot and it seems to work well.

Thanks Eric, I'll take a closer look at the filler neck. At a glance it doesnt appear to be that beat up for all the years and the cap just seems to be very cheaply made!!
