Question

I'm just curious if you can paint them with engine paint(the very high temp stuff)?
Should you prime them first?
About how long will it last?
Thanks,
Donnie

Yeah, you can paint them with engine paint, but it won't last long. Most engine paints are good up to 400 or 500 degrees. That isn't high enough. Header paint is readily available though, in multiple colors. You should be able to get it at any good auto parts store. I have also heard that stove paint works well for headers and exhausts, but I have never tried it.

Okay, I'm just thinking that for the price of a couple cans of spray paint, I can just paint them every time the paint burns off and I'll never have to go out and get them ceramic coated.

Try POR-20 hi temp aluminum paint. I painted my headers with it. Looks great and it's pretty cheap.

Engine paint will burn off as soon as you drive the car.
Stove black paint for wood burning stoves is probably the cheapest stuff.

Donnie,
It's lasted almost a year and counting. Did have to touch it up once since one area got chipped installing them. Other than that, it's great! Just make sure you strip them, sand them to etch the surface a little bit so the POR-20 bonds if that's the route you choose to go. Good luck!
