Slide the clip in first, then slide the solenoid through the clip. It should be set so that it will energize when the throttle is punched full open.
BTW, the aftermarket switch I have is a little larger in diameter than the GM. I would recommend the GM, but if you have the aftermarket, you might need to enlarge the hole on the throttle arm a little. Otherwise the solenoid may explode when you try to force it through the clip. I know, because that's what happened to me. I have since tried to install a GM one, but since I filed out the hole to fit the aftermarket one, it won't stay in place.I would need to replace the arm to make the GM one work.
