For those of us not too happy with our 350/290 engines

I'm not too happy with the power delivery characteristics of my GM 350/290 engine, so naturally I spend a lot of time daydreaming about how (once my cash flow situation improves) to get some more power out of it while still using regular gas. There used to be a Popular Hot Rodding article online about mild mods getting both HP and TQ into the 400's with a 9.5:1 c/r (IIRC). That article was taken off line, but then I found these recently:

http://www.hotrod.com/how-to/engine/...engine-part-2/

381HP/403TQ at 9.43:1

Sounds good to me!

Re: For those of us not too happy with our 350/290 engines

Years ago I got a 65 el camino in trade that had the 290hp crate engine in it. Wasnt expecting too much but I was actually surprised how well it performed. Some fine tuning on the ignition and carb and some performance gears would really wake it up. For a low compression engine with a 40+yr old camshaft it really performs well for what it is.
