Is the edelbrock performer RPM setup any good? I have heard both good and bad things about edelbrock's stuff, but was wondering what you guys thought since it is going on my newly purchased '76 Camaro.

Thanks in advance for any help,
Joe

Depends on your engine combo. The RPM manifold is definately one of the better manifolds for an engine with a 2000-6000 power band.

I think the consensus is the package is pretty good, except for the CAM, much better cam alternatives on the market!

I agree with kz. Intake and head are good, but there are better cams to be had. I don't know how the Edelbrock heads compare in price to other manufacturers. You might be able to find a similar head elswhere for less.

I loved the Perfomer RPM cam and intake on my set up. With AFR heads the combo took me to [email protected] at 3450#.

I did have a problem with the lifters. I was swapping the heads and noticed that a couple of the retaining clips that hold the plunger assembly together had come loose. Never had any problem from it, but I swapped in a set of Comp lifters just to be safe.

I think you'll like it.

I guess I should qualify my answer a bit. What I'm looking for is good street manners and low-mid torque. The RPM made the bottom end a bit soft for my taste. If I take mine to the quarter mile, it will be for fun once in a blue moon. So perhaps what the RPM cam provides is not what I'm looking for.

Did you have the same stall as now? That's a good ET for 113. 60 ft about 1.59?

Lonnie, Yep, same converter. The converter is a blessing and a curse. It's real slippy (i.e. inefficient) so it has always made for great e.t. (due to high stall) but not much MPH (too much slip at top end).

When I had a tighter converter I ran 11.96 but at a slightly HIGHER MPH!?!?

I have spoken to ATI, BTE and others about getting a more efficient 8" and all of them say they could get me a little more MPH but couldn't really improve e.t. so I just keep my $700+ in my pocket. It's only a problem in the 1/4 because I run out of RPM but I do 98% of my racing in the 1/8th.

KZ is right the Cam sucks but the rest of the package is pretty good. But i will say i am not a big fan of thier small block heads i think for the price you can do much better.

69CamaroRacer, very nice and clean 69. What's your ET goal with the new 383? Just curious.

Thanks Lonnie Thanks for the complement. I would be very happy with anything in the 11's. I am hoping to get 500hp 500lbs of torque out of the new 383 so if the power is there I think that the mid 11's are do-able. I as far as suspention goes I have 90/10's up front and new multi leafs and 50/50's in the rear with Cal track bars. In the past the car has been exceptionaly responsive to mods as I was able to click off a corrected 13.2 @103 with only 230 rwhp. and 280 rwtq. If for some reason I can't get to my goal naturaly I will just spary a 100 shot. For right now I would just be happy to be able to drive it again. It has been an entire year sice I started my build and I am in the home streach of completion. Come hell or high credit card bills I will be terrorizing the rice rockets and the frod clan at the strip come spring!
