Old plugs

I just found a set of spark plugs in my garage that I bought probably 25-30 years ago. The reason why I know it has been that long, is the price tag is from a store that has long been closed.
Do the plugs go bad? What is the shelf life?
Thanks
Barry

Re: Old plugs

As long as the threads are clean and the insulator is not cracked its good as new.

Wink Re: Old plugs

Most of the 50's on Spark Plugs used a ceramic sealing compound internally to seal the electrode to the ceramic body at the base and some also used it at the crimp of the ceramic body to the metal thread body.
I've seen (and heard) a couple of older barn find vehicles where the OEM plug seals leak. No big problem, just a slight 'cuffing' noise ... no visible cracks or damage was visible on these plugs, but blowing on them like a whistle showed they had a slight leak at the base - we were amazed to find this
But these vehicles were stored for years in various conditions, one was an old tractor stored since the 50's in a shed, that allowed for very high temps and other conditions that most likely contributed to this failure.

I would say to just look them over, do a 'whistle' test and call them good if they look okay

If a man says something in the garage - and his wife can't hear him - is he still wrong !!!
