gm crate motors arent expensive and are very reliable.i personally wouldn't buy one off ebay.
got mine from advance auto parts and it had 3 loose main bearing bolts and a bent pushrod!it was only a grand but i couldn't find much info about it before i bought it,and wound up with smogger dished pistons and 58cc 305 heads.a diffucult way to build a performance motor!
i think the gm units start at around 2100 bucks.
you get what you pay for
good luck

Depending on your area you might be surprised what a local engine builder / machinist can do for you. 350 motors are a dime a dozen so finding a solid core shouldn't be an issue. Often they can do it for about the same as you can do it yourself.

Look around locally, you would be surprised how cheap you can take a decent 350 off someones hands. Ive bought a few complete for under $200, and my friend just bought one for $100 but it needs assembled. Its nice to pick them up that cheap but its really only the way to go if you are able to work on the stuff yourself. If not you better get a crate engine with warranty, and theres lots of them out there. I think GM has a 250hp long block crate for $1200.

If I was to build me a budget 350 right now, Id find a good shortblock cheap, then add GM vortec heads, they are only about $5-600 a pair complete I think.

Actually that is true. I just saw a project car selling locally for around $2300 (67 Camaro coupe) that comes with a new 350 crate motor that hasn't even been turned over yet. I was seriously concidering it until I found the 67 coupe I actually bought.

Last checked the car is still for sale. I'll bet you could get it for $2K, keep the motor and sell the roller on ebay for at least $1500.

Its in the SF Bay Area. I just found the email. The guy was asking $2900 not 2300. Sorry.

He's got an ad on cars.com but no pictures. I had a couple, but I believe I deleted them.

Ditto on the GM Crate engine......I got one about a year and a half ago, and it runs great! Power is not bad either, but you can do better with higher performance cam and headers, but you'll void the warranty.

You can do a $500 shade-tree overhaul on an old 350 core but for the money up front the GM Goodwrench motor is HARD to beat, imho..

And I'm as shade-tree as it gets!!

I'm with the understanding that if you don't put this engine into a vehicle that originally came with a 350, you don't have a warranty anyway...

Check into this while you're weighing your options!
