Re: 67 camaro 327 coolant temp

My 68 327 has the coolant temp sensor located on the driver side cylinder head (291) toward the front under 1/3 spark plugs. If I remember there is a flat/boss that can be drilled/tapped for a 1/2 npt thread fitting.

Re: 67 camaro 327 coolant temp

I've run with the sensor on the intake in the stock location and now on the drivers side head. It didnt make any considerable difference.

Re: 67 camaro 327 coolant temp

If your heads dont have the hole for it then the stock location in the intake is fine. Thats the point where the water gets to the temp to open the t-stat so that seems logical to me (and gm).

Re: 67 camaro 327 coolant temp

I have had a temp gauge hooked to a sender in both the stock head location and in the manifold and both places read the same. Just because the sender is close to the t-stat housing doesn't mean it will read different. The sender is still before the t-stat and ya maybe before the t-stat opens the water in the head and in the manifold might be slightly different temps but once the t-stat opens the flowing water should even out the temp any point along it path until it gets to the core for cooling.

Only one is needed and the cylinder head is the best place to take it.

Re: 67 camaro 327 coolant temp

Guys I have a edelbrock rpm intake and the port is under the thermostat housing so I am just wondering if it will read incorrectly being so close to the rad hose

Re: 67 camaro 327 coolant temp

Does it look like this... (before and after) before shows the sender. The engine runs 170 and if it gets really hot out climbs to about 180 max. I don't care if the temp number is accurate because it's consistent! If the engine were to over heat I would know it by the gauge movement.

Re: 67 camaro 327 coolant temp

looks just like that the reason why is I have a gauge in there for engine break in reasons and now I wanna start cleaning up all the wiring so I put the sender back in and if you think it will do the trick then I will install the same way

Re: 67 camaro 327 coolant temp

If youre worried about the rad hose passing over the sender unit closely, dont, its not a problem. It will work just fine.

Re: 67 camaro 327 coolant temp

Dennis and Melrose above are onto it.....
And if running.. good practice .. both idoit light and temp sensor... run the idoit light on the head....
Reason being if the thermostat is faulty or what ever .. remains closed, the idiot light still comes on.... which stock comes on at 235 degs

Other than that any difference between the locations are a Dennis describes above and for that reason.

My Spelling is not incorrect...it is creative
