Need some advice on our '56 Suburban.

It has a 350 engine out of a '77 Caprice that was in it when we purchased it and the oil pan has had a hole worn in it by the drag link (think that's the correct name for the rod that connects the front wheels).

Anyway, until we put in a new IFS in a year or so, I need to know the best way to modify a new stock pan so it has clearance. As you look from teh front,it's hitting where the front where it begins to transition to teh bottom of the pan (hope that makes sense).

Am thinking that using a round bar and giving it a couple whacks with a sledge hammer will do the trick but was interested in other opinions.

Other option may be a different shaped pan but really haven't searched(found the problem tonight).

Thanks for any help

Before beginning your game of 'wack-a-pan' - can you space the mounts up an inch or two to raise the engine and give the clearance you need?
If you do begin beatin' on the pan - watch the counter-weight/rod big-end clearances very carefully or the wear will be coming from inside instead of outside the pan.

If a man says something in the garage - and his wife can't hear him - is he still wrong !!!
