Question

It's time to replace the burned through header gaskets on my car. After searching previous posts, it seems like Mr. Gasket Ultra-Seal is the way to go. The question I have is which gasket do I go with? a 5901 "stock" 1.45" x 1.55" gasket, or, a 5907, 1.50" round gasket? Do you match the head port opening or the header inside diameter opening to the gasket? The heads are "186" castings and I have no idea who made the headers.
Any input would be greatly appreciated...
Thanks...
Scott

The UltraSeals are a good choice. As for which ones they need to be matched to the header opening.

The header should have a raised bead on the head side of the flange. The gasket needs to cover this bead.

I had to go with the round ultraseals because the square ones started leaking at the corner with my dynomax headers. Now they work great. Earls are awesome too. I just was too impatient to wait for the replacement inserts from mail order and Auto zone had the ultra seals. Todd
