I don't know the CC of the ports, but I did find this:
290=Oval port, 69&70, 2.06/1.72 valves 100.967cc chambers, tapered spark plugs.
063=same as 290 with flat plug seats.
215=same as 063 except used in 67&68.
802=same as 215 except no temp sending unit boss.
390=Oval port, 67, 2.06/1.72 valves, 98.427cc chambers.
702=same as 390 used in 66.
260=couldn't find it.
213=couldn't find it.
206=Oval port, 65&66, 2.06/1.72 valves, 97.167cc chambers, first production markIV oval port head.

This info came from "Chevrolet by the Numbers" by Alan Colvin.
Hope this helps,
Stephen

Question

Squarles,

Thx for the info.

Would a good set of bare -781's be a good swap for a good set of bare closed chambered oval's??? You know, no cracks and usable.

I'm thinking about playing around with a flat top piston, high compression big block ta see if theory actually works. pdq67

#290's as cast (referring to large oval ports only), with the 5/8" small spark plugs, have the largest intake port runner volume at an NHRA maximum of 262c.c.'s.

I have a good pair.

Thumbs up

That's nice to know, I've got a set of 290's on my 396, and I was told they came off of a 70' Corvette, 454 motor, LS5, and that they are about the best iron, oval port, BB heads you can find......KZ

Question

YenkoYS100,

You want ta do a swap, my bare -781's for your bare -290's or is it considered an even trade?

Only problem is the shipping charges. Get back to me. pdq67
