Red face

The stock 400!

My b-i-l bought a used, cheap optioned, '67 400 Coupe with a four speed, but treated it like sh-t and finally ended up getting rid of it after he got mad after a six-pack and stomped the roof in!!

He was and is to this day just a schosh jealous of my '67 SS/RS I bought new..

stock: 400 ram air (was 3 available)

take the 400 block
add a 428 crank
get 440 with (I think) a 30-over bore

edelbrock heads rock!

If you decide to build a Pontiac engine that really runs hard, convert it over to BBC rods so the bottom end will hold together. The stock Pontiac rods were incredibly heavy and they weren't made of a good material either.

The Ram air 4 heads I think were the best, but they are very hard to find in good condition for a decent price these days. The Edelbrock heads were supposed to be close copies of the Ram Air heads and should have plenty of meat for porting, or so I am told.

I like them old Pontiac motors . . .

Unhappy

Eric is right, they are cast if not mistaken and only good up to like 5000 or maybe 5500rpm?
