Does anybody know if a exhaust manifold fitted for a 7-bolt flange on the cylinder head will work on a earlier 6-bolt flange if the last bolt is left out? I wouldn't think the manifold would flex enough to cause a leak.

I ask because my 1986 C10 currently uses a 7-bolt style exhaust manifold, and the heads warped and cracked. Now, I found a great deal on the heads I want, but they are the earlier 6-bolt flange. At this point, headers are not an option.

Any ideas?

Somebody makes a plate that will adapt your old head to the newer exhaust manifold.

Can you drill and tap that last hole into your new heads? Hard to say whether it would leak or not without that one bolt.

I don't think so...doesn't appear to be enough material.
