I'm trying to find out if this block is a ZL1 block or a Yenko block. on the front it has the winters snow flake but instead of the W it has LC casted in the middle of it. also on the front where the timing cover mounting surface is the bottom right side it has the numbers 9578 and inside the timing cover on the block it has BQ and SY30 all three numbers are stamped in. on the back of the block up where the bellhousing mounts casted in is 3946052 on the right side and on the left side 06017.it also has screw in freeze plugs.i was told with the LC in the snowflake it might be a Yenko block then i was told if it has screwin freeze plugs its a ZL1 and if it has pressed in freeze plugs its a Yenko. I also have a ZL1 block and its the same but it has the W with the snowflake and the date casted in on the leftside of the block but the casting number are the same.I've had this block since 1985 and i planned on racing it but i'm starting to wonder if its to rare to take a chance on ruining it.

I had a Yenko ZL-1 block and it definitely had the screw-in freeze plugs. It did not have the snowflake though as I remember. There are some people here who'd know for sure; until then there's a lot of info on the Yenko website http://www.yenko.net/

there is one other thing thats different then the ZL1 block and this one the ZL1 block has a plate with 2 bolts that goes on the back of the block behind the cam and this block just has a freeze plug.

I agree with that Everett its just that this block is not the same as my other block if it is a zl1 block that would be great it does have the same casting number but it is not the same and i'm wondering why. i was told that yenko made these blocks with the snow flake but no W and winters did threatin to sue because they still used the snow flake.is it possiable that GM had some other company making them too?
I'm gonna hang on to it Jeff the only way i'd part with it is to take a new zl1 block in trade if it means anything to anyone that wants this block i'm not trying to make money off of it i just want a aluminum block. Thanks for the input
