Hello all,

I just finished up doing the valve stem seals on my 327. It definately helped the smoking on startup problem. Now I'm on to the "fun stuff"... Installing a new Weiand Stealth aluminum DP intake,625cfm Carter 4bbl carb. & 1&5/8" ceramic coated headers from Summit!

Anywho, my question is: my old cast iron 2bbl. intake manifold bolts don't have any washers on them now. I should add some washers before re-installing them on the Alum. intake right? If so, should I use flat washers or lock washers?

Thanks,
Mark P.

I would use some new bolts and washers from ARP. I just like them and the newer look doesn't hurt. Always use flat washers under the bolt heads on aluminium. Also check to see if any bolts go through to water jackets or oil returns as they will need to be sealed. I use a can of "Hard Tack" from Permatex for bolt threads. After I get sloppy, it cleans right up.

Codi's right, use flat washers. Per head, the two outside holes are blind. The four inner holes need sealing. Clean threads and bolts with Brakleen so sealer will stick.

Also, the reason flat washers are needed is because if the bolt is too long, then the bolts will rub against a couple pushrods, creating a screech, like fingernails on a blackboard.

Thanks guys,

I'll look into some new intake bolts with flat washers. I thought flat washers were correct, but just wanted to be sure. I'll also try to find some of that Permatex "hardtack" that you mentioned Codi....

Hello. How do your summit headers fit? Is your part # SUM-G9001-9?
I am thinking of getting some of these and would like a few opinions.
Thanks in Advance.

FyreFighter,

Yes, the Summit headers I have are part # SUM-G9001-9. I haven't installed them yet,so I can't say how they fit. Otherwise, they look good.
