Hi everyone,
OK I'm 39 and this is my first camaro. Its been garaged all winter and I took it out for the first time today, When I give it gas it hesistates and backfires, the more gas I give it the worse it is. once up to speed it smooths out. It was garaged with a quarter tank of gas. any suggestions? also there is a sound like a bad bearing, is there a bearing notorious for going bad on these cars, 305 FI Carb.

Try filling the tank with some fresh fuel. How long has it been since the engine was tuned? Could just be misfiring. What does this bearing noise sound like?

Did you do anything to it before you garaged it? Seeing as how this has been one looooooong Winter up here and super cold, the first thing I'd do is just as Mark says. And I'd drop in a can of dry gas to the tank. Then change the fuel filters. Clean/regap or replace the plugs and shoot some carb cleaner down the throats while it's running. Oh and DEFINITELY change the oil and filter.
See if that doesn't help it out a bit.

The bad bearing sound is probably the ancient sludge that used to be oil back when you garaged it in the Fall. Every drop of the oil was in the pan so it took some time for it to make it's way around the oil passages. Hopefully that noise will go away and nothing got damaged while it ran dry for a few moments.

Good luck!

We had this problem with two cars that sat all winter --- both needed new plugs and some fresh gas and oil. BTW Gas looses its octane rating the longer it sits - it may have been 93 octane when you pumped it in the fall and closer to 87 octane crude oil by spring!

If it doesn't go away with a little tune up, I'd start to be concerned about a bad cam lobe. But if it ran fine in the fall when you put it away a cam problem is VERY unlikely.
