What is the difference between a standard carb and a California carb. Is it jets and metering rods, or is there more to it than that?

The short answer is "Yes"...
Calif & "High Altutude" cars from GM usually have different Jets and Rods along with a host of other internal setting and parts differences.
Depending on the carb the differences can be many.
The same can be said for Auto v.s. Manual trans carbutetors.

The longer answer would need a "What Year" factor added in...

If you have a specific carb (or 2) you need info on, post the numbers and several on here can answer specifics about it's set-up.

Hope this helps;

John

All help is appreciated, thanks.

The number is 7040511. I know the basic decode: 40=1970, 5=California, 1=Chevy, 1=odd=manual.
