The previous owner of my 69 took out the 327 and put a 305 from a 79 Caprice in the car but then mixed and matched parts between both engines so I don't know what is off the original 327 and what is off the 305. It runs pretty good but needs to have the timing set on it. I am not sure what the timing should be.

Because they used the old 327 distributor instead of the one off the 305 which would have electonic ignition, do I follow the timing spec for the 305 and the dwell spec for the 327?

Where can I find these specs for the timing and dwell?

On another note, Is this car worth much less not having the original engine or another 327 in it?

Stock timing is 4 BTDC, but you can probably push that up to 10 or 12 BTDC. Stock Dwell is 30 degrees.

Hopefully the previous owner didn't mismatcth the timing cover and the harmonic dampener because after 1969 the timing cover tab and moved in relation to the timing mark on the dampener. As long as you have a 69 crank, balancer and timing cover, or a 79 crank balancer and cover your OK. Any mixture of parts and your timing marks will be off in relation to TDC.
