Question

I am to the point I need to buy and exhaust system. 1969 with a mild 350, 4 speed and factory manifolds. I want a system that will bolt right up and not have to be modified. (I am sick of modifying, it seems if it does not have GM on the box it doesn't fit). I like the chambered exhaust but I am afraid it will be too loud. Has anyone tried the Gardner system? Any other suggestions??

Dan;

Have you tried a "search" for 'Gardner' or 'exhaust' ?

There are lots of good past posts that discuss these systems, such as this one - https://www.camaros.net/cgi-bin/forum.../9/11285.html?

Hope this helps

I did a search and got 15 pages. Just thought it would be easier to ask. I guess the real question is a stock transverse muffler or 2 mufflers like the flowmaster system. Any thoughts on which set up works/ fits best. Ground clearance issues?

The Flowmaster system is set up for headers, does not include the up pipe and flange to bolt to a stock manifol. I used the 2 muffler system, it's loud, and i like it!

I had the same situation as you with stock manifolds, stock hangers etc. I went with the stainless steel system they sell in Rick's with the transverse (sideways) muffler, dual exhaust like the factory designed. I put it in myself with no help and it fit perfect. There was no welding, just bought the proper clamps and hangers. It was a perfect bolt in. I think it has the perfect muscle car sound. There are no clearance issues at all.

Gardner wants $595 for the system. That seems like a lot for a system that is not stainless. Jonesy, was the system you got from Rick's 2" or 2 1/4", did it have flats in the right places. I find it hard to believe as many Camaro's as there are there is not more choices.

choices? check www.drclassics.com They list about 20 exhaust systems total, all various OEM type in both steel & SS. I've been in the shop that bends them up for D&R, place is first class, and does nothing but exhaust systems.

hmm, counted them, 31 exhaust systems, including 8 different chambered pipe setups.
