i have a new mini starter from Tommy Johnson's motorsports warehouse, it is a gear reduction mini starter , 119$ . actually i installed it with all the different shims possible, either with and without the shims, and i noticed a grinding noise (starer teeth against the flywheel) when the starter engage and when it disengage, or even when it try to start the engine.
The starter is a universal application , as wheel for 153 and 168 fly wheels.

I realy don't know what to do. I am scared of ruin my fly wheel with that gringing.

It is really annoying.
Does anybody faced that and what did you do ?

I have never heard of a starter that is good for both types of flywheels, I would check into this further.

well that was written on the sheet i got with it. Anyway i count the teeth on the starter wheel and their are the same number then my original number. they look quite the same as well.

Really i don't understand what 's the problem and it is really annoying.

I think i 'll repair my old starter instead.
THe problem with the old unit is its solenoid that always burn because of the headers.
