'94 V6, rebuilt engine 1 1/2 years ago; last three months or so with quick stops the oil pressure drops to zero & check engine lite illuminates for a few seconds, then pressure resumes. Oil is not low and recent oil & filter change made no difference (used to be better after oil change before this one. Doesn't occur on tight/fast turns or starts. Any ideas ??

Could be that the oil pickup is set too high off the bottom of the pan. Or maybe there is a plugged drain hole that is keeping oil from draining quickly back into the pan. Sounds like low oil level to me, but you said that ain't it . . .

PS. You could test for low level (like maybe your dipstick is off for some reason) by adding an extra 1/2 quart or even a full quart just to see if the problem disappears. Don't leave a lot of extra oil in the engine though - can cause leaks and others problems.

some pans have a baffle to keep the oil from sloshing forward on a hard stop and starving the pump. could be the baffle came loose if it's s'posed to have one.

my brother's pantera had the same problem when he ran synthetic oil. he switched to dino juice and it quit. we figure the synthetic was just super slippery and sloshy.

or you could try a thicker oil.

it is definitely sloshing forward and starving the pump when you stop quick, for whatever reason, be it not enough oil in the pan, or whatever. if it is not draining down fast enough, the thicker oil wont help, it'll make it worse.

Sounds like the pickup fell off the oil pump. Can try this, drain oil then thump on the bottom of the pan with your fist. If it sounds like something is clanging on the bottom of the pan. . . Can also use a coat hanger wire through the oil drain hole and sweep it side to side of the bottom of the pan.
