When I removed the stock exhaust manifolds from my 1969 350, there were not any gaskets between the manifolds and the heads. I have never heard of anyone not putting gaskets on exhaust manifolds. Does this make sense? Did the factory use gaskets? They didn't seem to leak but this seems strange to me.
From what I've personally seen, you are right the Factory didn't use Gaskets on the exhaust manifolds they were a machine fit & didn't need it. When you reassemble if you have a leak then you can use a gasket to stop the leaks.
