i am replacing the valves in my "601" 58cc heads and would like to use ls1 2.00x1.055 or 2.02x1.60 valves.
how much can i grind the hardened valve seats before compromising durability or ruining them?
they are 1.84x1.50 now.

zzzzzzz, (name ???)
The factory induction hardening is not very deep at all. I would say if you grind more than .010" away, the hardening is gone. I dont know if those heads have enough "meat" in them to go to a 2.02 x 1.600 valve setup. Plus any additional flow you might realize from the larger vlaves will probably be killed by the fact that the valves will be shrouded terribly by the combustion chamber walls. I personally think that you are wasting your time and would be a lot better with a set of Vortec or maybe the Aluminum Vette heads. Not as much compression, but I bet more power.
Just my opinion,

I'm not a head expert myself, but I do know that Bill is right about the shrouding. There are several fast-burn designs that will work well since the chamber design is not as round as most. But that is the extent of my knowledge.
