Anyone have any experience putting a ZZ572 in a 69 Camaro. Before I buy I want to see if headers will fit and the tall deck/intake will clear the cowl hood Thanks Don

You will likely need as aftermarket cowl hood to get any kind of a decent air cleaner on there. The stock steel cowl is tight with a standard deck height. Companies like Lemons Headers make headers for the tall decks and raised exhaust ports; standard big block headers will likely not fit, they wouldn't work on mine with a standard deck and raised exhaust ports.

The top of the 572 tall-deck block at the front and rear where the intake sits is 1/4" higher than the standard-deck block.

Hey Don - I've got a 454 in my 69 with a performer RPM Airgap intake, 1" carb spacer, holly 850 and a stock repro cowl hood - I'm using a dropped base with 14x3 K&N, and the K&N XStream lid - it's tight but fits with the aircleaner up in the cowl.... you clould probably nix the 1" space with the 572....

Nick,

Have you ever run that car with a taller filter and no hood? You might be surprised. Even with that top a 14X3" dropbase is too restrictive for a healthy big block. I had a car pick up .7 in the 1/4 with a 5" filter over a 3" drop base.
