Well we pulled apart the engine in the car I bough .. Looks like they tried to fix a promblem with bearing wear and line bored it wrong.. the block is trashed. The bearings look like they have 120,000 miles on them and it supposed to be a new motor

Anyone know where to get 427 GM block for a core? I could buy a Merlin block but thats $2000!!!

If I could find a core short block I could get it done .60 over and re-use the pistons and such.. this sucks.............

Help..............

bummer on the block.
if you don't need matching #'s, a 454 block
will work fine and is much easier to find.
good luck.

A 454 and a 427 have the same 4.25 bore, A 454 uses a 4.0 stroke vrs the 3.76 stroke of the 427. In other words you can use your rotating assembly from your 427 in a 454 block and bingo... you have a 427
I hope this helps,
Nick

I was just talking with my machinest about blocks. They run a blown BB in a bonneville car. The thing turned the main bearings and killed the block. He said that when you figure all the work to make a stock block right it really is better to buy the far superior dart or bow-tie.
