MY 396 ENGINE IS EQUIPED WITH OVAL PORT CAST IRON HEADS AND A WEIAND SINGLE PLANE ALUM INTAKE. I WOULD LIKE TO MAKE IT STOCK LOOKING AND ADD AN ORIGINAL CHEV ALUM INTAKE PT 33933163 WHICH IS A RECTANGULAR PORT INTAKE. CAN I RUN A RECTANGULAR INTAKE INTO AN OVAL PORT HEAD AND NOT EXPERIENCE PERFORMANCE ISSUES. I AM RUNNING A 670 CFM STREET AVENGER HOLLEY WITH AN ELECTRIC CHOKE. IF OK ANY OTHER ISSUES TO BE CONCERNED ABOUT? THANKS FOR YOUR REPLY. GREAT SITE TEAM CAMARO.

Yes they work fine(but I don't know why). I let a friend use one of mine to try on his oval port motor. It runs better than it did with the oval port manifold. No sealing problems.

Dennis consider the cast iron oval port high rise GM made for use with the Holley. I believe this was only cast in 65 or 66. I had two of them at one time and was pleased with it on my 70 Chevelle SS 396 car. It kept the stock look of the quadrajet intake, but hidden underneath the cowl air cleaner was the Holley and it was taller, not like the flat intake that came on the car. Sorry I can't remember the part number of the intake. I think pdq67 might know the number if he wants to jump in here.

Dave,

I know the one you are talking about but don't have it's number handy??

I think it was used on the 350 and 360 hp/396 motors around '66 or so..

Imho, it is a sleeper intake!! Cast-iron near high-rise oval port, Holley and all!!

Does Mortec list intakes??

The holley cast iron intake is casting 3866948 and was used on 65 - 67 396 325hp and 350hp engines. It was also used on 427/390HP engines in corvettes and passenger cars. You see them on ebay from time to time. They're similar to the 163s other than the weight. Hope this helps.
