You may need to rebuild the carb...sounds like a sticking needle and seat. The rebuild kit has good instructions for setting the float level. Be careful taking the Q-jet apart. They're kind of tricky.

You could try some fuel system cleaner (the stuff you pour in the gas tank) first, that might clean it enough to make it stop sticking and save you some trouble.

You take the little "L" shaped "ruler" if I remember right that is in the rebuild kit, measure the position of the float after turning the float housing up side down, and bend it gently at the "crook" that's in the float arm.

Is this right, guy's b/c it has been years and years since I rebuilt mine. I'm talking 1970/'71 here so I'm just curious how my short-as-ed memory is.

Also, be sure to buy a float, as they aren't normally included in the rebuild kit.

They can soak up fuel, and become heavy.

Thanks alot guys! If it's a sticking needle and seat, can I just spray some carb cleaner in there and wiggle it or something? Or does it need to be rebuilt?
Thanks again,
Donnie
