I have a 69 COPO "clone" project..... CE3xxxx on deck....Block casting #3999290 or 280 with Oval Port 3909802 (B 18 7) heads.....Not sure if 454 truck eng???.......In my effort to have engine "look" correct I removed Edelbrock manifold and bought correct 163 Square
Port Intake and 4346 Holly Carb........FYI this car has Turbo 400 with 3:55 12 Bolt....undetermined camshaft, Hooker Competition headers, etc etc.......I'd like someones EXPERIENCED expertise to tell me if this combination will give me grief in idling, throttle response, accelleration, etc etc ......Thanks, Chuck S

It works fine. Just use square port gaskets or you'll have a big vacuum leak!

I gave a friend a factory big port manifold to use on his oval port 396. He claims it runs better than with the performer that was on there.

Forgive me if this is a stupid question, but...

Wouldn't the transition from the larger rectangular port manifold to the smaller oval port heads be like running into a wall (around the edges of course)? And wouldn't oval heads run out of steam before the intake??

Not being argumentative, just learning!

Rob, it's certainly not the best setup, but the square to oval thing works ok for a driver. Even with matched ports there is less flow on the walls than in the center of a port so the oval port heads draw from the high flow part of the square intake manifold. I doubt you would be able to run 12.40's with the mismatched heads and intake on your Yenko, but for a "car show" or "drive in" car it's workable.

The only reason someone would want insurance is if they want to pay someone elses bills or want someone else to pay their bills.

Thanks for the info, John! Would it be possible to "gasket match" the oval heads to match, or get close to, the square heads? The 163 intake wouldn't have *quite* the signal as a true oval intake, but it ain't bad, and matched with a set of gasket matched heads might make for a pretty decent street car.

Rob, I've been told that the OVAL port castings dont have near the material to gasket match to the 163 SQUARE Port Intake.......I bought this NICE looking 69 COPO "tribute" car and just trying to detail engine compartment to "look" correct.......Chuck S
