After reading through the archives, I have a couple of questions. My car still has the idiot light for oil pressure. Does anyone know what the "below pressure" amount is for this light? I am adding a gauge asap.

The problem is after I replaced all the seals this past weekend(rear main, oil pan, front seal, valve cover), now after the car warms up, the oil light comes on at idle. Rev the engine, goes off. Drive it, goes off. Idle - on. The engine does not sound oil starved, but I'm worried. The car never did this before until I replaced these seals. I was very careful about keeping everything clean and everything torqued to spec. I've done this procedure w/ several engines, but this is the first time I've had this problem. The engine has 9,000 miles on it (new oil pump at that time), I'm running 10W30 standard (no Syn), its a 1970 350, mild cam, HEI.

Any ideas on what I screwed up here? I hope to have the gauge installed by this weekend for better info but looking for a headstart where to look.

THANKS in advance!!

I think the light comes on when oil pressure drops below 7 lbs.

Unhappy

They have a very wide 'trigger variation' or "hysteresis" (if you want the $5 word) from different suppliers.
I have tested ones as low as 4psi before

Get a mechanical gauge and check the readings.
Could have knocked the pick-up loose or a stay piece of gasket scraping may have gotten into the pump or ?

Don't panic (yet) - get the readings and then post back.

If a man says something in the garage - and his wife can't hear him - is he still wrong !!!
