the z-28 cam was 254 dur. 485 lift and the off-road cam 3927140 was 257-269 dur. and 493- 512 lift, at least thats what crane calls thier replacement $99 cam. I think different companies still make copies of the 140 for about $70. Wonder why someone would pay $355 for a 30 year old cam when you can but one for $99.

I don't think it was b/c you could order a new Z-car and also order the X-ram setup for $500 more and it came in a box in the trunk therefore your motor would still just have the great old 30-30 solid cam in it anyway unless somebody installed a -140 cam in it's place at sometime..

The crossram could not be ordered from the factory, it didn't come in a box in the trunk (neither did the headers in 69). It was a dealer item ordered under part number 3940077 "carburator conversion package" which included everything you needed to install the crossram and new carbs. It didn't include a new air cleaner or cam. If you wanted a new cam you could have ordered it but it didn't have anything to do with the crossram setup itself.

Question

Mark,

In other words if I ordered a new '69 Z-28 and told the Dealer to also order a new X-ram setup at the same time for it, the x-ram wouldn't arrive in the trunk of my new car???

B/c That's what I have read took place back then from several articles so stating..

That's what I'm telling you. There was no way to order the cross ram setup with the car, and the factory had no access to the crossrams. The dealer would order you the car and then place an order for the cross ram setup just like they would order any other part. The cross ram would come in from the GM parts organization and probably sit around on the dealers shelf until your car came in. Then you would probably have to remind the dealer to install it because by the time the car came in it was about 2 months later. Same with the Z28 headers. They came in the trunk in 67 and 68 if you ordered them as part of the Z28 package but were no longer available that way in 69 for some reason.

But the parts department could just put the parts in the trunk when the new car arrived.

The street version of the DZ with the 30-30 cam was a slightly detuned version of the race version with the 140 off-road cam (along with blueprinting etc.)
