My '68 Camaro has the original 327 with headers. I am not sure what brand they are but they need to be replaced. They are rusty and when the car was shipped to me, the trucking firm pulled the car down tight on the transporter and flattened the lower tubes of each header. Now here's the question (bear with me-there are no stupid questions-right?): My exhaust system is a dual system with a cross-over pipe. Turbo mufflers are installed with 2.5 dia. pipe-nice system. If I change to a new set of headers, what are my chances that they will mate to my existing system? I have been considering the Hedman headers brand since they advertise the heavy wall tubing. Any feedback would be appreciated.

If your luck is anything like mine there is absolutely NO chance that your pipes will line up without modification.

Look your headers over closely when you take them off. I know Hooker puts a name plate on theirs, but not sure about other makers. You might get lucky and figure out what they are so you can buy another set.

Seriously - odds are that you'll need to redo the connect point to your system. It's not a big job for a muffler shop, and if you are apt at welding you can buy some mandrel bends and do it yourself.

Good luck!

Sad but true. But who knows....you may luck out. But I kinda doubt it. In my 68 with the old 350, I had Doug Thorley 375Y headers and they fit perfectly. When I dropped in my new crate motor I kept the same headers...but I replaced my entire exhaust system from the headers back. Check the rest of the exhaust system to see if its worth keeping...if the headers are in that bad of shape, whats the rest like? Remember, for the most part, your exhaust will rust from the inside out.

Steve - Did you have a muffler shop do your exhaust or did you buy a mandrel bent system? I'm looking to do away with the crossflow and get true duals. thanks!
