I'm rebuilding the 400 this winter. So, I may have a few questions. I received lots of help here when I rebuilt my 12-bolt posi a few years ago. This is a great site

So, I am plastigaging the main journals. They're a little on the high side. Maybe 0.003. Except the rear main is even larger. Possibly 0.004 - 0.005 (I need to check it again to be sure).

My crank is new.

Can I tighten the clearance with different bearings? The main line was checked out when the block was machined.

Oh, and, if you see this - thanks BillK for the answer on my previous question.

You can tighten the oil clearance with a set of shells from Callies Performance, Fostoria, OH.

You can do just one side, or you can do both halves, depending on how tight/loose you would like the clearance. Ask them about the rear bearing. They might sell you an individual journal. Be sure to have the correct size of diameter starting and where you would like to go.

We had a block come in the shop a few weeks ago to check out the main line and the problem was the same as yours to much clearance we checked out the main line and it was .001 to .0015 over the high side we line honed the block for the customer and haven't heard anything since we did it. And there are .001 under main bearings bearings available for your application.
