Hi, im getting a LT1 Engine for my Camaro, just discovered on the net that there is two blocks, one with two-bolt mains and one with four-bolt mains.

is this difference important? is the 4 bolt much stronger? im not sure which bolts the text i read it is talking about.

should i get a LT1 from a Corvette preferably? or all the basically the same in Camaros, and other chevys. ?

whats best between aluminum and cast iron top?

Yes Hans there are two versions of the LT-1 block available - the 4-bolt blocks were used in the Corvette and some H.D. applications of passenger and trucks. The H.D. Marine version is also a 4-bolt -but, there are some 2-bolt blocks used in marine engines according to a friends info.
The two blocks are identical and carry the same casting number. The two bolt blocks are slightly lighter due to the lack of the additional bolts and smaller cap sizes (and the heavier Iron upper parts parts of course, but these can be changed) but, not a significant difference.
The block you choose is dependent on the application. If you are going to built the engine for higher output I would choose the 4-bolt as a base, if it going to remain pretty stock you can use the 2-bolt.
The Aluminum upper end engines are a little lighter and less prone to 'pinging' on lower octane fuel than the Iron versions.
